A space snack born from an ESA research project

Space Snacks inspired by ESA is a freeze-dried cube snack whose recipe came out of "Development of Future Snacks for Space", a 2024 research project funded by the European Space Agency. Super Garden developed it together with the French space agency CNES, the Institute for Space Medicine and Physiology (MEDES) in Toulouse and the Lithuanian R&D company Biordico.

It started in an ordinary kitchen. Super Garden founder Laura Kaziukonienė was looking for a way to get more vegetables into her children's diet. The very first cube was a carrot – a whole carrot pressed into one gram, one centimetre. That idea grew into the patented recipe now used both in space food research and in everyday backpacks.

Why spirulina

Spirulina is a blue-green algae prized for its unusually high protein content. Here it is combined with pea protein isolate, freeze-dried raspberry powder and cocoa butter: the raspberry acidity balances the algae, while the cocoa butter binds the cube so it melts in your mouth.

Cocoa butter, freeze-dried raspberry powder, spirulina, pea protein isolate.

How to use and store

Eat straight from the jar, take it on a trip, a hike or to training, or sprinkle it over yoghurt, porridge or granola. Store in a dry place with the lid closed.
